Drawing - Sepia And Red Chalk, Pastel And Charcoal
Description
Being a guitarist for 37 years I finally had to do a musical piece. While I normally stick to standard rules for lighting in my work, I used a more creative lighting approach on this piece, with the guitar and my hand emitting its own light and energy while the light striking the guitar and my hand are from an unseen secondary light source. Makes sense if you have ever played electric guitar through a 100 watt stack. Guitar players understand. And no, that's not a power chord, its a C6 add 9. Again, blues and jazz players will recognize. I'll do another one with a rock power chord later! Btw, this is my first try with sepia and red chalk, which limits the detail work I do with graphite but I wanted a bit of tone with this piece but not a full color work.

Is this your new piece? Very nice! Great composition and use of light and shadow. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your music themed pieces! I'm still in awe over your "Violin and Rose" painting. That just takes painting to a whole new level!
Glenn Beasley replied:
Yep. Polar opposite to the violin & rose. Of course this one took 3 days and the violin took 4 or 5 weeks as I recall!. Was just in the mood to play with charcoal & pastel. So glad you like the violin & rose as I really put a lot into it. And I will do some more musical pieces just not sure what and the medium yet. Thanks so much!

this could turn out to be a long series of all kinds of instruments . bass, drum, mic,... keep them coming Glenn. I like your point of view
Glenn Beasley replied:
Thanks Logan! I appreciate the kind words and great suggestion. I have the bass, mic, piano, banjo, dobro, fiddle (ahem, violin)....everything but the drums....I wanted the piece to be through the eyes of the musician instead of the audience...planned on some more musical themed pieces but really didn't think of a follow up on this one..thanks again
